MBFWA's top showgirls

Julia Nobis owned the runways of last year's Australian Fashion Week. Nobis had far bigger fashion fish to fry this year in the northern hemisphere, leaving the Australian Spring/Summer 2012/2013 field earlier this month wide open to the score of Australians rising up behind her. Last month, frockwriter published the MBFWA showcards of Australia's major model agencies; in each case a mix of runway veterans and promising new faces. So who had the busiest schedules at this year's event? We asked the agencies to name their top showgirls. 

It was hard to miss the Chic Management girls in particular. So numerous were they, in fact the agency had to charter a special minibus to ferry them around the venues. No doubt facilitated by 16 "Chic exclusives" - i.e. shows that only cast Chic models – this agency's models really did clean up at the event. Top of the list was 18 year-old Nicole Pollard from Brisbane, who walked in 24 shows - more than any other model at the event. 

Just named as the face of the 2012 Perth Fashion Festival, Pollard will also head  to Paris for the haute couture shows which start on July 2nd. Although this is due to be her first couture season, Pollard did get a first taste of the international show circuit in September last year, when she walked in 10 shows at New York Fashion Week. At 5'11" - taller than most - Pollard definitely has the requisite height for a high fashion career and we predict she could be Australia's next breakout star. 

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia SS1213 newcomers of note included Chic's Montana Cox, Gabby Westbrook-Patrick and Elouise Boughton and Viviens' Eliza Baker.
