There's no other store (for top models) like David Jones

As the August vacations wind down in the northern hemisphere and the fash pack contemplates getting back to work, starting with the Spring/Summer 2013 season which kicks off in a few weeks, Australians are heading into our own summer season. David Jones was the first cab off the rank last night with its Spring/Summer 2012/2013 launch, a riot of colour and cartoon heroes. To showcase the store's edit of some of the best Australian collections of the season from leading names such as Josh Goot, Dion Lee, Camilla, Zimmermann, We Are Handsome, Lisa Ho and new Djs stablemate Gary Bigeni, was a swag of top Australian models. Joining DJs' high profile ambassador Miranda Kerr was Sports Illustrated covergirl Jessica Gomes - who looked like Wonder Woman in some novelty swimwear courtesy Romance Was Born - and rising stars such as Rose Smith, Montana Cox, Jemma Baines, Nicole Pollard, Bambi Northwood-Blyth, Jack Vanderhart and Jordan and Zac Stenmark, all of whom have made waves on international runways in recent seasons. The biggest of all, after Kerr, was Julia Nobis, who was booked as a David Jones exclusive, which means you won't be seeing her at Myer's show tomorrow.

Not that a number of Australian media outlets appear to have even registered the fact that Nobis was there, with the country's three biggest newspapers, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Daily Telegraph and The Herald Sun, in addition to news.com.au, among the outlets that overlooked her in their coverage.

Nobis made her international debut at New York Fashion Week in February 2010, booked as an exclusive for the prestigious Calvin Klein show. She is now in such demand by major fashion houses, that she has booked the biggest number of shows of any model of any nationality for the past two international show seasons, 73 last season. So omnipresent was Nobis during the Fall/Winter 2012/2013 shows in February and March, leading US fashion business newspaper WWD dubbed her "The face of Fall".

It's not the first time that David Jones has wheeled in the supermodels.

When Kerr took leave from her David Jones duties in 2010 to marry beau Orlando Bloom, she was covered by Abbey Lee Kershaw, Catherine McNeil, Nicole Trunfio and Alexandra Agoston.

Frockwriter shot backstage last night (here is a small gallery, below) and we spoke briefly with Kerr about her latest set of nude images to surface. They were taken by French photographer Laurent Darmon but it is still unclear exactly when. Darmon's Paris agent has not responded to our emails.

Kerr said that she couldn't remember where, when or why they were shot, indicating that she may have done so many nude photoshoots over the years, she has lost track of them.

"They were taken a really long time ago" is all she could offer.

On the shots going viral last week, Kerr shrugged her shoulders as she was heading out onto the runway and noted, "What can you do?"
