Andrej Pejic is wearing a trouser suit to Ladies Day

What with all the high-profilers in town for Melbourne's Spring Racing Carnival, wheeling in favours from their internationally-renowed creative mates - Stephen Jones and L'Wren Scott kitted out Nicole Kidman for Derby Day and Bruce Oldfield and Philip Treacy dressed the Duchess of Cornwall for the Melbourne Cup - some local outfitters may be feeling a little upstaged at the moment. But Andrej Pejic is supporting the home team with his outfit for tomorrow's Crown Oaks Day at Flemington, aka Ladies Day. (See update, below)

Pejic is reportedly wearing a hat by Melbourne milliner Kerrie Stanley and an outfit by Melbourne designer Arthur Galan

But while some have suggested that the outfit will be a top-to-toe "tribute" to Princess Beatrice's look for the royal wedding in April 2011 - an embroidered taupe Valentino coat and dress and a matching, much-mocked Philip Treacy headpiece - frockwriter hears that Pejic won't be doing as much of a Beatrice homage as originally thought.

According to Galan, who has been designing menswear for 14 years and womenswear for the past six, Pejic will be wearing a tailored, sleeveless boyfriend jacket over super skinny trousers in Italian stretch cotton, teamed with a wide belt, "skyscraper" heels and some "bling".

"We're combining the genders to create this suit" reports Galan of the bespoke outfit.

Stanley's hat, meanwhile, made from hand-dyed straw, will feature the milliner's signature solid "teardrop" shape for the 2012 racing season (an example of which is featured above), approximately the same height as Beatrice's Philip Treacy and similarly, worn low over the forehead. But that's where the comparisons end, she says.

"We pay our fashionable respects, but it's not a copy, it's an interpretation" says Stanley, who has also created hats worn by Boy George, Georgia May Jagger, Jennifer Hawkins and Delta Goodrem (Stanley created the flower garland worn by Goodrem to the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday).

Pejic's suit and hat match in colour, which remains a surprise until midday tomorrow when he rocks up to the Swisse Vitamins marquee, with mum Jadranka Savic on his arm - wearing Calvin Klein, she told frockwriter.

UPDATE 08/11: Pejic just Tweeted a photo of himself and Jadranka, in a slight variation on the original planned ensemble - in dusty pink (which was made to Pejic's own specifications).

We just got off the phone with Pejic, who told us he is wearing the trousers of the Arthur Galan suit, but has ditched the sleeveless boyfriend jacket in favour of a purple and white digital print long-sleeved jacket by young Melbourne designer James Todorov, teamed with Christian Louboutin heels, some Kozminksy necklaces and an Alexander McQueen clutch.

Kerrie Stanley's hat did not arrive in time, according to Pejic, so he is wearing a different brand milliner today. He just couldn't recall their name at the time we called.

As for any millinery "tributes" to Princess Beatrice's infamous royal wedding hat designed by Philip Treacy, Pejic still apparently has plans to revisit that option one day.
