Australian models on the S/S 2013 campaign trail

Their numbers on the Spring/Summer 2013 runways might have dropped by half from the previous summer season, but 19 Australian models still managed to cut a swathe through the New York, London, Milan and Paris shows in September and October last year. Some among them, such as Ruby Jean Wilson and Julia Nobis, scored high profile opening and closing roles. Judging by the SS13 advertising campaigns that are now beginning to roll out, the antipodians made quite an impression. To date, no less than seven Australian models have popped up in ten major international campaigns. Who are they?

Scottish Australian Ruby Jean Wilson has so far scored three SS13 campaigns (below). First up, Marc Jacobs, shot by Juergen Teller and in which she is the sole face (Wilson talks about the two-day Marc Jacobs shoot in this Q&A). Marc Jacobs is also the creative director of Louis Vuitton and he cast Wilson for Louis Vuitton's SS13 campaign, which was shot by Steven Meisel and co-stars Daniel Buren, Athena Wilson, Bria Condon, Janice Alida, Ji Hye Park, Magdalena Jasek, Nastya Kusakina and Tian Yi. Wilson also stars in the Jaegar London campaign, lensed by Alasdair McLellan. Could there be more RJW campaigns in the pipeline? And should models.com perhaps consider giving her a slot in its Top 50 Women list?

Julia Nobis is an undisputed runway queen (who recently moved up from her debut #38 spot on the models.com Top 50 to #31) and her previous campaigns include Balenciaga, Burberry and Louis Vuitton. This season Nobis adds Hedi Slimane’s debut advertising campaign for Saint Laurent Paris, which was naturally, shot by Slimane himself. And the Proenza Schouler campaign.

Sudanese Australian Ajak Deng, meanwhile, is also in the Louis Vuitton campaign. Here is one of the early campaigns shots to appear so far:

Chosen by Christian Dior’s new hire Raf Simons for his debut haute couture and ready-to-wear collections last year, Nicole Pollard is clearly a Simons' fave, popping up overnight in his debut ad campaign for Dior SS13 ready-to-wear, opposite Daria Strokous, Daiane Conterato, Anna Martynova and Marie Piovesan and lensed by Willy Vanderperre. Pollard is second from right, below:

Codie Young, meanwhile - who is also the star of Marc Jacobs' new 'Dot' fragrance campaign - appears alongside Magdalena Jasek, Mackenzie Drazan, Tilda Lindstam, Maud Welzen and Esther Heeschin the Valentino SS13 campaign shot by Sarah Moon:

And Young is not the only Australian making waves in SS13 beauty campaigns - beauty campaigns, of course, being potentially more lucrative still than ready-to-wear advertising gigs.

Here is Chrystal Copland (below) in the campaign for
Anna Sui's Spring/Summer 2013 cosmetics collection 'Drama Queen', which debuts in Tokyo tomorrow. This is Copland’s second consecutive beauty campaign for Sui.
