Cat McNeil benched for gaining weight?
vogue germany via trendhunter
Well that's one theory floated by today's edition of The Sunday Telegraph in a story about McNeil's absence from the SS10 show season. McNeil's Australian agent, Kathy Ward, tells the paper that she has not "heard anything". Even if, one assumes, McNeil's mother agency Chic Management must have a good idea why McNeil was promoted on showcards for the New York and Paris legs, but failed to show at either. Frockwriter understands the weight theory has a little more credibility than the other option suggested by the paper - a "mystery virus". If correct, this would make two of Australia's most successful models - coincidentally both Chic Management girls - forced to sit out the season because of the draconian casting criteria of the high fashion runway circuit. It's fascinating that although everyone in the business knows that that's exactly how things work in fashion and that this is the reason why Myf Shepherd did not book more shows in New York and why she skipped the rest of the season, ditto Ali Michael two years ago and Gemma Ward one year prior to that, few are willing to go on the record about it.

Abbey Lee's bony arse was all over the Paris runway, though.
Damn, at least she has extra weight on all the right areas.
I think jumping to the conclusion that she sat the season out due to weight gain is premature.
Cat may have been included in the show package just to enhance its overall prestige, since she's one of Next's biggest stars. Next did the same thing this season with Anna Jagodzinska, and NYMM did it with Sigrid Agren. None of them did castings and it sounds like all had already decided they weren't walking before casting even started.
Plus, Cat has taken off runway seasons "just because" in the past.
I don't want to speculate about McNeil in particular here, but isn't "mysterious virus" frequently fashion code for "substance abuse problem" (both involve runny noses, weight-loss, high temperatures and erratic behavior), in the same way "no comment" and "just because" is code for weight gain?
Of course, if the latter weren't a cause to bench models, we'd have an awful lot less of the former too.
Even if she were the size of a house she would still be hot
Those wonderful Miuccias, Lagerfelds and Marshes of this world are most taken by girls in the flourishing phase of an eating disorder (a model's sanity is a non-issue). Very few can sustain this from season to season and unless this changes then the age of the 'supermodel' is dead!
god. damn..... her boobs above? HOT!!!
HUGE opening for a designer to feature hot size ten models then, I mean it could be a scandal LOL!
I for one would be delighted to see a thigh bigger than a knee again. It is getting sickly.
Look at who is getting the campaigns though! - the older girls mostly.
Catherine is very beautiful! and the curves .... that is what women mostly look like - not many keep the bean pole look into their 20's as their bodies develop into that of a woman.
How recent is that picture? She looks amazing
I love her way more when she's in her healthier phases than the thinner ones. Compare:

BRING BACK CURVES!
If that was taken after her weight gain, I'll say this, she looks great!
Ladies, take note! While Karl Lagerfeld and I are diametrically opposed on this, I can tell you that the majority of straight men don't like you looking like pale, sickly, stick figures! ;)
^I think Catherine is more interested in what women like, not men
I think she is even better looking a bit bigger... her boobs look amazing in that shot
Prolific blogging.
I think she looks ok in the new pictures posted on TitoMedia.com. She gained weight (most noticeable in her face), but she looks healthy and cute. No way she can do HighFashion-shows at the moment, though.
