New faces: Jazmine Hikaka

Gemma Ward was first spotted sitting on the floor of a television studio in Perth in October 2002, on hand to support some mates who were trying out for Search For A Supermodel. Sixteen year old Gold Coaster Jazmine Hikaka has a strikingly similar reality show connection.

In January, Hikaka accompanied her sister Montana to the Brisbane auditions of Cycle 8 of Australia’s Next Top Model

Montana never made it into the show, however Jazmine was spotted in the audience by eagled-eyed IMG Models scouts David Cunningham and Jeni Rose – the agency’s New York- and Paris-based Vice Presidents Development, who joined the AusNTM audition roadshow as part of IMG Models’ new affiliation with the show

Having just been signed to the Gold Coast’s Busy Models agency two weeks beforehand, however, she was ineligible to enter the competition (not that being signed to an agency thwarted the chances of another new Gold Coast face, Nicola Walsh, from being in serious consideration for the show).

But it’s a win-win situation for 5’9.5” Hikaka, who has since been signed anyway to IMG Models worldwide – and who is about to appear in the agency's local showcard pack for next month’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia.

Although she was previously working for a year on the down low with another Gold Coast agency, Division Model Management, this will be Hikaka’s first MBFWA.
