Swim Fashion Week axed

swim fashion week SS09/IMG

In what is no doubt some extremely sad news for the Australian swimwear sector, the sophomore edition of IMG's new swimwear showcase, Swim Fashion Week, has been axed. The event was due to take place at Sanctuary Cove on Queensland's Gold Coast from February 23-26 2010. According to The Gold Coast Bulletin, the event collapsed after it failed to receive backing from Queensland Events. Why the organisation was not locked in for a multi-year arrangement remains to be seen.

It's such a shame as swimwear is such a fundamental part of any Queenslanders wardrobe. I can't understand why something as epitomising as swimwear couldn't get the support from QUEENSLAND Events. Tisk tisk.

According to IMG Asia Pacific, The Gold Coast Bulletin misquoted Daniel Hill. The Queensland Government have been supportive of the program to date - it is a lack of corporate sponsorship that has led to the cancellation of Swim Fashion Week 2010.

The Gold Coast Bulletin quoted Daniel Hill correctly. It was a combination of both Queensland Events failing to sponsor the event as well as corporate sponsorship falling through. Overall, it is a travesty for the Australian swimwear industry but IMG assures us that Swim Fashion Week will be back and stronger than ever for 2011.
