Gemma Ward: Back in Vogue

Upon revelations of Gemma Ward’s October 2008 marie claire Spain cover, one snarky net poster couldn’t help noting, “Wow what a downgrade for Gemma. She went from Vogue Italia cover to marie claire Spain in one year!” Well just days after Ward was snapped joining in the Barack Obama victory celebrations on the streets of Manhattan – which victory occurred the day after her 21st birthday – comes news of a freshly published Ward editorial. In the November 2008 edition of Vogue Italia.

These images have just gone online in The Fashion Spot web forum – although apparently scanned by a poster called "Diciassette" for a separate forum (and thanks to the tipster who alerted me).

The shots are reported to have been published in a supplement to the edition. The editorial feature is called ‘Cossack Style’ and Ward appears on two pages, with British model Lily Donaldson.

Earlier this year Ward appeared with Donaldson in both the Dolce e Gabbana spring/summer 2008 advertising campaign - and on the February cover of Britain's i-D magazine:

Coincidentally, the latter cover was also shot by Emma Summerton and frockwriter wonders if perhaps the new shots in Vogue Italia are in fact new shots - or simply Summerton's unpublished offcuts from the i-D, or another, shoot.

Ward's latest Vogue Italia cameo is neither a cover, nor or an only-girl ed. But it is nonetheless interesting in light of her recent fashion hiatus.

We may be about to see a whole lot more of Ward downunder.

Ward’s debut feature The Black Balloon has been nominated for 10 awards at the 2008 Inside Film Awards, which will take place this coming Thursday night on the Gold Coast. The nominations include a Best Actress nod for Ward.
