The Rutt pack

rachel rutt/TFS street style NYFW

Sadly frockwriter has been otherwise occupied for the duration of New York Fashion Week, so this blog has been incredibly quiet. Australian models, on the other hand, have been busy, with at least 12 local names walking in shows. Anyone we have missed, feel free to add in. According to Chadwicks Jessica Hart and Louise van der Vorst were also on deck, but so far the photos have yet to emerge. Priscillas says that Lauren Brown did eight shows, but we have only managed to spot her in two. A few models of note. After skipping last season altogether due to an ankle injury, Abbey Lee Kershaw powered back last week booking an impressive 20 shows, including some of the week’s biggest names. As expected, Rachel Rutt made an impressive RTW debut, also clocking 20 shows.

Georgie Wass, who we have recently profiled several times, continued her ascent.

Although Christina Carey only managed to book two shows, one of them was Ralph Lauren – which she opened.

Arguably the biggest surprise of the week was the low profile of Myf Shepherd.

After sprinting off the starter's block last year with two blockbuster ready-to-wear, one haute couture and two resort seasons since she first popped up at Australian Fashion Week in May 2008, Shepherd walked in just eight shows last week, with the biggest name 3.1 Philip Lim.

Some modelwatchers have suggested that Shepherd looks to have gained some weight - which, if true, certainly would not go down well with international casting agents.

But frockwriter is wondering if perhaps the GFC may have anything to do with things.

Shepherd is not yet in Kershaw’s star league. By the same token however, nor is she ‘the new girl’ – as was the case with Rutt and plenty of others. All of whom would earn a much lower rate than Shepherd.

At a time when everyone is cutting budgets, you have to wonder if clients are splurging on either a few big girls, or else lots of cheaper newbies.

For the moment, Shepherd finds herself somewhere in between. But let's see what the rest of the season holds. London Fashion Week starts today.

Thanks to modelwatchers at The Fashion Spot for keeping such earnest individual tabs on most of these girls.

I think Myf has only walked at one haute couture week unless I missed her somewhere in the most recent HC shows in July.

what happened to Cat McNeil? she's missing yet again

Any news about Alice Burdeu? Was she in New York for Fashion Week?

love Rachel and so happy for her.
I do wish models would put out the ciggie or conceal it before being photographed.

Myf did not walk this season's Mulberry. If you check Style.com, you'll see that both Myf and Rachel were on it. However, if you check style.it you'll see other models such as those name on your blog. Those photos corresponded with gettyimages.

I agree with Marian about the ciggie, it is such an unappealing look and habit. I am loving Abbey more and more as her career goes on :)

tks claire and modelspotter -

yes you are spot on. i was confusing chanel's big resort show in venice with HC, myf did not turn up in paris in july.

anons @ 10.33, 11.15 and 6.34 -

cat mcneil was (according to jd ferguson) booked on a job for the duration of NYFW. no sign of alice burdeu.

i'm confused re the mulberry info. that certainly appears to be myf in the style.com mulberry gallery. style.com not only names her (although we know incorrect captions do occasionally run), but the model in style.com's mulberry show shots is a dead ringer for her.

style.it has no photos whatsoever of the SS10 mulberry show as far as i can see.

Patty Huntington said...

brilliant - thanks for that. waded through the (excruciatingly slow) elle.com collection slideshow to find.

Rutt did w/ alexander berardi, I did check out and I love the photos. I hope they will improve their slide show so that people who view it wouldn't patiently wait for viewing it. Australian fashion designers
